ABS-CBN aims to have more profitable opportunities in its content business with Globe Telecom when both companies came to a decision to wind down their networking sharing agreement, which is set to expire within this year.
ABS-CBN Convergence found that its mobile business model to be financially unstable after an internal assessment, which led to the decision of refusing to continue with their deal with Globe that was signed on 2013.
The network said in a disclosure that “Leveraging on ABS-CBN’s expertise as top content provider to the Filipino and the vast reach of Globe as the leading telecommunications company, both companies have decided to shift their focus in maximizing synergies.”
These synergies from Globe and ABS-CBN will consist of ABS-CBN including TVPlus boxes with Globe at Home prepaid WiFi as well as ABS-CBN TVPlus’ Kapamilya Box Office (KBO) and iWant TV over-the-top services to all Globe subscribers.
ABS-CBN mobile prepaid, post-paid, and Sky Mobi subscribers, however, will continue to enjoy services such as text, call, and data, services until the final date that will be approved by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).
