Since 2013, laptops have become more and more portable. It’s a no-brainer that people today are looking more into looks and even performance on a laptop to depend on.
One series of Acer that combines the agility of being portable and capability is their Swift series. Recently, with the smash hit Marvel Studio’s Avenger’s Infinity War the brand also launched three laptops which are
These series of laptops carry special looks based on the famous characters of the show and what we have is the Iron Man edition.
And here it is. We had some time with this laptop, overall it was an enjoyable experience. Check out our hands-on experience with this laptop.
Here are the specifications of this laptop
Acer Swift 3 Iron Man Edition – SF314-53G-550F
Opening the box is just a delight, you will be greeted with an embossed white rubber of Marvel logo. It’s an immediate smile in your face honestly and unboxing it will add even more touch.
Once removed from the special cover sleeve, the immediate thing will greet you is the lid with Iron Man’s arc reactor. A solid red color with the middle showing the arc reactor is covered on a glossy corning glass lid.
Unfortunately, the arc reactor doesn’t light up independently but only because of the screen display. Perhaps one good factor that makes us smile even more is that it’s completely red, we love gadgets that are red.
Opening the lid is more red colors with a theme of gold highlights in the hinge, side accents in the body and even the keyboard keycaps.
The C-Panel which is where you lay your hands have the red avengers color with even a big Avengers logo printed on the right side. There’s even a Marvel logo near the fingerprint sensor as an additional accent.
The trackpad is made of glass with a matte texture, to be honest, its a bit on the rougher side but not to the point to turn you off. Additionally, gold chrome accents are on the trackpad to show it’s distinction.
At the right side is a Kensington lock, LED indicator light for performance and charging, Type-A USB 2.0 and SD Card Reader.
At the left is the charger port, HDMI, Type-C USB 3.1, 2 x Type-A USB 3.0 and a 3.5mm audio jack combination.
The bezels are normal for a 14″ laptop, it’s not thin or thick and just right for its price point. What we like overall is the package of its materials of plastic and corning gorilla glass for the lid and metal at the body.
Even the bottom is given detail with the rubber feet is red, speaker grill is red and the bottom lid is accurately red.
Weight is nice at 1.6kg, it feels solid and strong especially for guys. Considered as light and quite portable at 18mm thin, we think it’s ideal for everyday work professionals and students who like to hit gaming at the side.
The display is IPS with a matte finish, the overall brightness is around 350nits which can’t combat direct sunlight. Color gamut is just right but the colors aren’t bouncy as compared to other IPS laptops we experienced.
We had to bump up the color saturation via the Intel Graphics settings to at least catch up the color richness of our current desktop and laptop we are using.
The Swift laptop is powered by the latest 8th generation Core i5-8250U paired with NVIDIA GeForce MX150 which is equivalent to a GeForce 930 series in performance.
Gaming is possible but in low settings, but its more ideal for light graphics such as editing photoshop in 4000×4000 resolution or even rapid resizing of photos which what I did much in my work.
Multitasking with 8GB RAM is suitable for everyday tasks, like opening chrome with multiple tabs, excel, powerpoint and word files are opened while many social apps are still open as well.
The 256GB SSD is enough for regular working for all your files such as videos, photos, documents and even several games. While you think it might be small, given with a stable fiber internet connection you can simply do Google Drive for better management.
Let’s get it straight, this isn’t a gaming laptop despite the Ironman impression. But a laptop to flaunt out every day and embody the image of a sleek laptop that is able and bring zest to your everyday tasks.
The display as mentioned earlier isn’t bouncy as expected on an IPS panel, though the speaker is above average performance with warmth and clarity. Playing videos and games are just right given if you are in a quiet environment.
Overall delivery is good but could improve further with perhaps an improvement in the display with a software and even sound management for better warmth and volume.
Overall the Swift Iron Man edition is light at 1.6kg, it’s not super thin but enough to bring a smile to the face of people while working especially when you’re going to present to a crowd while setting up.
The image of carrying Ironman on a laptop is indeed magical like the movie. Acer was able to do it in the swift. Though there is more room for improvement, it’s not enough to turn this laptop down in your list of choices given in its good specs and shoutout color.
The Acer Swift 3 Iron Man edition is available for Php69,990, it’s special appearance and specifications slightly over jumps other Core i7 enabled laptops in the market. But do consider this utilize the latest 8th generation Core processors.
