Activision Blizzard is going to launch Activision Blizzard Studios. This is a new in-house film and television studio focused on bringing video games to the big screens and our TV sets.
The first project for the new giant studio will be Skylanders Academy. This will be an animated TV series based on the Skylanders game series. It should air on the second quarter of next year. Apart from Skylanders, Activision Blizzard is also looking at the Call of Duty franchise. They envision having Call of Duty feature films and TV adaptations.
Video game adaptation to movies and TV features are not exactly a good business. But for some gaming companies like Ubisoft, they are optimistic that time could reverse what has happened in the previous years. Ubisoft is working on their own movie with Assassin’s Creed, Rovio, with an Angry Birds movie. Blizzard Entertainment, a division of Activision Blizzard, is currently working with Legendary Pictures for a Warcraft movie.
