Today is a great day for PC gamers. After Nvidia’s announcement of their monstrous GTX 1080 and 1070, we now find the red team giving the beating. AMD’s Raja Koduri, Senior Vice President and Chief Architect for the Radeon Technologies Group, explained the graphics segment by unveiling this baby:
His talk goes on further with the state of VR. Raja stated that VR should be for everyone and not just a meager part of the community who can afford it. He then gave away the price of the RX 480, stating that it is offered at $199. Pretty affordable knowing that the previous R9 280 and R9 380 were offered at about $299.
Personally, I’m excited about the RX 480. Polaris might be making Nvidia cringe and this is a good thing for the industry. It’s powerful and more power-efficient compared with AMD’s previous lineups. The entrance of the RX 480 and Polaris can encourage the two rivals to continue upping up the ante now that the fight is going to DX12. Basically, a good time for the gaming community. On the otherhand, I expected AMD to show us more of their RX series, namely their high-end offerings. RX 480 was the only card shown and that was just it.
The card will be released on June 28.
For the full performance, we’ll just have to wait till the reviews roll out. I’m also specifically worried about the temperatures.
AMD’s keynote would not be complete without firing some shots: Kappa!
