AMD Ryzen 8000G APUs unveiled, steps up to Zen 4 and RDNA 3

The AMD Ryzen 8000G are four new processors from AMD announced at CES 2024. They are based on the Zen 4 architecture much like the Ryzen 7000 series. As APUs, they promise 1080p-capable gaming thanks to their RDNA 3-based onboard GPUs.

All four SKUs will come with Zen 4 cores but the Ryzen 5 8600G and Ryzen 5 8300G will come with what AMD calls Zen 4c cores. They are something akin to the competition’s efficiency cores. AMD has managed to fit two Zen 4c cores in a space of a Zen 4 core though they do come with less L3 cache and slower clock speeds than the latter.

The brand says that the Ryzen 8000G’s GPUs can handle up to 1080p games. The flagship Ryzen 7 8700G sports a Radeon 780M iGPU with 12 compute units that runs up to 2900MHz while the entry-level OEM-exclusive Ryzen 5 8300G has a Radeon 740M that sports 4 compute units at 2600MHz.

These are also one of the first consumer desktop CPUs to come with a dedicated NPU. With the help of AMD Ryzen AI technology, the company claims that they can accelerate AI software capabilities such as AI-powered noise cancellation and other workloads.
