Apple has announced a special edition for their latest iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus; the (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition. From the outset, this only seems like a red paint over the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. With this variant, however, Apple has decided to do something charitable; all (PRODUCT)RED iPhones sold will help provide testing counselling and treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS.
The new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition comes with a glass enclosure with matching aluminium band and a black front.
This special edition also introduces the (PRODUCT)RED iPhone X Leather Folio that is, according to Apple, specially tanned and finished European leather for a luxurios look and feel.
A portion of all proceeds from (PRODUCT)RED purchases go directly to Global Fund HIV/AIDS grants that provide testing, counseling, treatment, and prevention programs with a specific focus on eliminating transmission of the virus from mothers to their babies. Apple has been partners with (RED) since 2006 and has donated more than USD 160 million to the Global Fund, which makes them the organizations largest corporate donor.
The Apple iPhone 8 and 8 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Editions together with the (PRODUCT)RED iPhone X Leather Folio will become available this coming Friday, April 13, 2018.
