Apple has overtaken Samsung as the number 1 smartphone vendor worldwide after three quarters. The brand saw a surge of sales in Mainland China thanks to the aggressive pricing of its flagship devices, which allowed them to claim 22% share of the global smartphone market according to Canalys.
Despite good performance in sales, Apple was still forced to cut production in Q4 due to the global chip shortage. Its supply chain, however, is starting to recover and shortages are expected to ease up in the second half of 2022.
Just below apple is Samsung with a 20% market share in Q4 2021 – 3% up from a year ago. Resource scarcity have hit low-end vendors the most with brands tweaking device specifications according to the available materials, focusing on best-selling models, and staggering new product releases.
