While gaming is for everyone, not everybody can drop thousands onto a gaming laptop. This is especially the case for casual gamers coming from devices like smartphones or consoles that want to delve into the wide world of PC gaming. ASUS, however, is making the transition easier thanks to the entry-level Gaming V16.
Those coming from cross-platform titles that support cross-saves will have an easy time migrating. Games like Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero will automatically sync your saves to your account whether you’re playing on mobile or on the ASUS Gaming V16.
With a gaming laptop, you’re no longer limited to a smartphone. Aside from playing on a traditional keyboard/mouse setup, you can also play on a controller. If you’re in a more chill mood, you can also hook it up to a TV with a controller and play on a big screen on your couch.
Upgrading to a dedicated gaming laptop from an old one, smartphone, or console means better graphics. Powered by up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060, the Gaming V16 is able to play the latest games without any problems at decent framerates depending on the graphical settings.
The RTX 50 series also bring DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation into the mix. Games that support it will have better image upscaling as well as improve framerates. These technologies are especially helpful for running extremely graphically-intensive games like Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, DOOM: The Dark Ages, S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chornobyl, and more.
The ASUS Gaming V16 comes with a 16-inch 1920 x 1200 144Hz display, which is slightly taller than the usual 16:9 screen. While you may say that most decently-specced smartphones come with fast displays, not all games support 120Hz or above refresh rates. If you can run the game at more than 60Hz, you can do so in PC gaming.
Working or studying on a smartphone might be a bit limiting for some folks especially with a combination of its small formfactor or imprecise touch controls. A laptop solves all of that thanks to a larger footprint and access to a mouse and a backlit keyboard.
The ASUS Gaming V16 augments all of this with its performance. Aside from having up to an RTX 5060 GPU, it is also equipped with up to an Intel Core 5 Series 2 processor, and up to 16GB of 5600MHz of DDR5 RAM.
This combination of hardware lets you multitask to your hearts content. In our case, this ability to juggle between tasks without worrying about performance like watching video essays, email, and writing is definitely a godsend.
Online meetings are also a breeze thanks to its 720p webcam. Those who don’t trust only disabling the video feed can also enable its privacy shutter to physically block the camera. Its AI Noise Cancelling microphones automatically removes background noise – helpful if you’re working outside in a noisy café or restaurant.
Traditionally, gaming laptops have been rather bulky. This has changed thanks to advancements, and gaming notebooks have never been more portable. The ASUS Gaming V16, at its thickest, is only 22.0mm and weighs in just shy of 2kg. You’ll have plenty of power in a notebook that easily fits in any backpack or messenger bag.
It doesn’t sacrifice ports either in the name of portability. ASUS equips the device with a single USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C port compatible with DisplayPort 1.4 and PD 3.0 charging, two USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A ports, an HDMI 2.1 FRL connection, and a 3.5mm combo jack.
As for power, the Gaming V16 comes with a 63Whr battery. While not the biggest capacity in the notebooks space, it’s plenty enough to get you through around 5 hours of lightweight tasks like replying to emails or browsing the web. You can get away with quick burst of gaming sessions like filling refining water on Dune: Awakening, but we don’t recommend having a full gaming session without plugging in.
Speaking of charging, the notebook supports 150W charging through its DC-in connection. In our experience, we were able to get the notebook to 100% from completely empty in just under 2 hours.
PC Gaming has a reputation to be quite expensive with some rigs or laptops costing multiple hundreds of thousands. The ASUS Gaming V16 is giving everyone the chance to experience PC Gaming and all of its perks starting at PhP 59,995. There are a couple of models to choose from depending on your budget and performance requirements:
As an added bonus, ASUS is throwing in an ASUS Backpack, their after-sales service with 2-year International Waranty and 1-Year Accidental Damage, and 3-month PC Game Pass.
