ASUS goes back to AR with ZenFone Ares

It’s no secret that AR on smartphones hasn’t matured yet. Last year, ASUS launched their first-ever AR focused smartphone; the ZenFone AR. This year, however, they have quietly introduced another smartphone with a focus on AR: the ASUS ZenFone Ares.

Despite the new name, the ZenFone Ares still carries a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage inside. The display of the smartphone is a 5.7-inch SuperAMOLED screen with a traditional 16:9 aspect ratio at 2560 x 1440. The screen’s usability is further improved by Tru2Life technology as well as an oil-repellent coating.

The ASUS ZenFone Ares also comes with a 23MP primary shooter with support for motion tracking, depth and 3D sensors for a complete AR experience. At the front, meanwhile is a sole 8MP shooter. As far as the cameras go, it seems that the ZenFone Ares still sports the same kind of cameras as its predecessor.

As far as power goes, the ASUS ZenFone Ares comes with a 3,300mAh non-removable battery with support for QuickCharge 3.0. Other features also include a SonicMaster 3.0 Hi-Res Audio 384KHz audio decoder, support for DTS Headphones with 7.1 surround, Dual-SIM, 4G VoLTE, and Bluetooth 4.2.

The ASUS ZenFone Ares is exclusively available in Taiwan for NTD 9,999 (USD 330 or around PhP 18,000). No word yet if it will arrive in the other parts of the world.
