ASUS solidifies its commitment towards a sustainable by partnering with non-profit organization Communities Organized for Resource Allocation (CORA) and collecting 1.67 tons of plastic and other recyclable wastes.
Their campaign spans three phases, each focusing on a holistic approach towards promoting eco-friendly products, reducing waste, and increasing awareness about circular economy and climate action, and how to lead an eco-conscious lifestyle.
The first phase of their campaign is a knowledge-sharing activity dubbed ASUStainable Solution: Circular Economy Starts with Us. CORA and its Circular Center Women Champions (CCWC) presented the current plastic situation in the Philippines. ASUS employees learned how they can contribute by recycling typical household waste.
The workshop also encouraged employees to disseminate what they learned to their family and friends. Afterwards, ASUS held a 2-month recycling activity among its employees, where they collected plastic bottles, soft plastics, sibak, colored papers, and cartons. These were collected through CORA’s Eco-Ikot Center pop-up. They were able to generate 840.6kg of total waste, which were then brough to Sentinal Upcycling Technologies to turn them into other products like benches, school chairs, and mobile trash bins.
ASUS also donated two ZenBook laptops to CORA to aid them in their administrative tasks including recording data from their Eco-Ikot Center in Parañaque City and managing other programs and campaigns with organizations.
For its second phase, ASUS installed CORA Eco-Ikot Center pop-ups in 3 ASUS Exclusive Stores to make it accessible for Filipinos to recycle and reduce plastic waste. As an incentive, participants got to take home ASUS and CORA merchandise in exchange for clean and dry plastic bottles. CCWCs educated them and other mallgoers what is circular economy and the benefits of recycling. Their efforts collected over 1,100 plastic bottles equivalent to 28.5kg.
ASUS celebrated the 2023 International Cleanup Day for the final leg. ASUS employees and participants combed the shore of the of Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park for trash and debris led by ZenBook S 13 OLED Ambassador and CORA Founder Antoinette Taus.
The effort managed to collect 646.2kg of plastic waste, Styrofoam, rubber materials, and stuffed toys. The trash accumulated was turned over to the Parañaque City Local Government Unit for proper waste disposal.
Data collected during the event will help CORA and government agencies address the waste problem in Manila Bay. The Wetland Park is part of the Manila Bay coast and was reported to carry an estimated 9.46 billion pieces of plastic waste.
United Nations Goodwill Ambassador and CORA Founder Antoinette Taus also shared, “We need to reduce our waste overall and make sure that the waste we do produce ends up in the right places, to the circular economy.”
The efforts of ASUS Global and its local markets contributed in sustainability focus areas. In their 2022 Sustainability Report, the brand exceeded ENERGY STAR standards by 34% with its eco-friendly devices accounting for 87% of total product revenue.
