ASUS ROG Phone now official, comes with an overclocked Snapdragon 845

-

The time has come, ASUS Republic of Gamers has finally done it. In their yearly ROG event in Computex, they have announced the first ever ASUS ROG Phone. With a specially binned Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 inside, the ROG Phone aims to bring a top-notch gaming performance anticipated from an ROG product.

The first ROG gaming smartphone

To separate itself from other flagship smartphones with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, the ROG Phone’s SoC has been specially binned from others from the line to have a top clock speed of 2.96GHz over the stock 2.8GHz clock speed of an average Snapdragon 845. To help performance, the ROG Phone also has 8GB of RAM as well as support for up to 512GB storage for all your games.

To deal with the added heat by the overclocked processor, the ASUS has developed a new GameCool 3D Vapor-chamber cooling system with the ROG Phone. This new cooling system brings in 16x larger heat dissipation area that that allows it to have a 60% improved cooling efficiency and 5x longer peak endurance.

For even better cooling, the smartphone ships out with an Aeroactive Cooler that acts as an external fan to further cool down the insides of the smartphone for an even longer gaming marathon that gamers usually experience with an average smartphone.

ASUS hasn’t skimped on the display with the ROG Phone. The display comes with a 6.0-inch FullHD+ AMOLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time. The screen also has a 108% DCI-P3 Wide color gamut, a 10,000:1 contrast ratio, and support for HDR content.

The ROG Phone comes with a 4,000mAh battery that promises up to 11.5 hours of streaming videos, 40 hours of music streaming, and 7 hours of continuous online play. To quickly top-off the smartphone, the ROG Phone comes with the ROG HyperCharge technology, which is essentially its version of quick charging with the ROG Phone getting up to 60% of charge in just 33 minutes.

To complete the gaming experience, the ROG Phone has support for three new smartphone peripherals built for just the smartphone.

TwinView Dock

To help mobile gaming streamers, ASUS has developed a dual-screen dock for the ROG smartphone. Dubbed the TwinView Dock, the ROG Phone mounts at the top of the display. The games are displayed at the bottom screen (which has the same FullHD+ resolution as the smartphone) while another app can be displayed on the smartphone itself like streaming apps like Twitch.Aside from streaming, the second screen can also be used for multitasking situations.

ASUS WiGig Dock

Screen controls not enough for you? The WiGig Dock gives a more tactile, controller experience with the ROG Phone. As you can probably tell, the ROG Phone transforms into a Nintendo Switch-like device when the WiGig is mounted. You game can even be streamed to an external monitor with the WiGig receiver.

Mobile Desktop Dock

The ROG Phone can be converted in to a PC complete with mouse and keyboard inputs with the Mobile Desktop Dock. It come with several USB inputs and HDMI ports for a complete PC experience in a mobile device.

The ROG Phone might not completely remove PCs and notebooks as a gaming platform, but it does more than enough to replace an entry-level notebook for office work and gaming

As far as the cameras go, the ROG Phone shares the same lenses as the ASUS ZenFone 5Z with support for Augmented Reality. This means that the ROG Phone has a dual rear camera setup with the primary shooter being a 12MP f/1.8 lens with a Sony IMX363 sensor while the secondary camera is an 8MP 120° field of view.

The ASUS ROG Phone will be made available in the Philippines by the third quarter of 2018.
