ASUS has officially announced that they are expanding the Scar II lineup with a 17-inch version under the name GL704. Like the original Scar II before it, the new GL704 sports NVIDIA GeForce GTX graphics and the latest Intel 8th generation Coffee Lake processor.
Instead of a 15.7-inch display, the ASUS Strix Scar II GL704 sports a 17.3-inch 144Hz screen with a 3ms response time as well as 72% NTSC. ASUS has also decreased the bezel size on the GL704 with the screen now having only 7.05mm borders, which ASUS claims is 50% narrower compared to competing 17-inch laptops in the market.
Almost everything, however, stays the same. Inside the GL704 is a Intel Core i7-8750H processor that can boost up to 3.9GHz from its base clock 2.2GHz. The GPU is a reasonable NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060.
The GL704 can be specced to have up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM at clock speeds of 2666MHz. Files and games can be stored in a 256GB NVMe SSD and a 1TB SATA FireCuda SSHD.
Alongside the announcement of the GL704 is the implementation of the ROG Armoury Crate. Soon to replace the gaming center, the ROG Armoury Crate will act as a one-stop software that will unify the ROG platform with all the controls and lighting settings for games and applications.
