Initially positioned as a budget gaming notebook just below the ROG series, the ASUS TUF Gaming notebook series will be released in 2019 packed with AMD’s new Ryzen 3000 series mobile processors.
With two new SKUs in the form of the FX505DY and FX705DY, the new generation of TUF Gaming notebooks are almost the same with each other aside from a few key differences.
Let’s start off with their similarities. Both notebook comes with a 4-core, 8-thread AMD Ryzen 5 3550H APU that’s capable of reaching speeds of up to 3.7GHz. Graphics are rendered by the Vega 8 cores in the APU as well as an AMD Radeon RX 560X.
The new generation of TUF Notebook also supports up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM with speeds of up to 2666MHz. Storage, meanwhile, can be handed over to up to a 512GB NVMe SSD and up to 1TB FireCuda SSHD.
The ASUS TUF Gaming FX505DY and FX705DY also share the same connectivity options such as a Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac WiFI, a single HDMI 2.0 port, two USB 3.1 Gen1 ports, a single UISB 2.0 port, and a 3.5mm combo audio jack.
The difference between the two models, as the name suggests, is their sizes. The FX505DY can equipped by a 15.6-inch 1920 x 1080 IPS-level NanoEdge display with a 120Hz refresh rate
The larger FX705DY can be had with a 17.3-inch 1920 x 1080 IPS-Level NanoEdge display with a refresh rate of 60Hz. Both panels, however, will have AMD FreeSync to eliminate screen tearing while playing games.
Due to the larger screen, the FX705DY will have a larger 64Wh battery compared to the 48Wh battery of the smaller FX505DY.
