Despite almost two years since its release, my PC has yet to be graced by an NVIDIA RTX 4000 series graphics card. I’ve been using my NVIDIA RTX 3070Ti as my daily driver in my current build. With that said, I asked some friends in ASUS if I can check out their AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT to test if it’s a decent upgrade path. This resulted in them sending me the ASUS TUF Gaming RX 7800 XT OC for me to try out and review. Is this a good graphics card and is it a great upgrade from an RTX 3070 Ti? Let’s find out in this review!

The 3DMark Firestrike Ultra tests the computer’s capabilities when rendering at 4K resolution.
Seeing the above results, the ASUS TUF Gaming RX 7800 XT OC is a perfect 1440p card. The above numbers show the frames given in games that were set to the highest setting possible (minus raytracing). Which then brings us to a conclusion…
As mentioned above, this review was spurned by my need to see if the AMD RX 7800 XT is a good upgrade choice coming from an NVIDIA RTX 3070 Ti. Seeing that I mostly use my mid-range rig for video games, with more or less an increase of 20 frames in 1440p, this is a significant enough number to warrant interest. Seeing such results, the ASUS TUF Gaming RX 7800 XT OC definitely a promising upgrade choice.
In terms of temperature, the ASUS TUF Gaming RX 7800 XT OC lies comfortably at a warm 38°C (100.4°F) when idle. However, when maxed out, the card sizzles up to 64°C (147.2°F).
The table above shows the power consumption of the whole card. At maximum, the card draws a whopping 398W. This peak has been achieved through alternating intense synthetic benchmarks and demanding video games. On the other side of the spectrum, the ASUS TUF Gaming RX 7800 XT OC has an idle power consumption of 26W.
With this review, we can prove that the ASUS TUF Gaming RX 7800 XT OC is a decent upgrade if you’re coming from an NVIDIA RTX 3000 series graphics card. The added oomph is very noticeable in games and you don’t need to change your processor (in my case) to experience a significant boost in frames. However, there are some things to consider if you wish to follow this path
As I use two G-Sync monitors to fulfill my gaming needs, the lack of support from the ASUS TUF Gaming RX 7800 XT OC completely makes both monitors underutilized. Although you can set high resolutions and refresh rate, you cannot take advantage of the whole package. Keep this in mind if you’re going to change from green team to red team.
NVIDIA hardware has unfortunately become too expensive for some and AMD is offering a ray of hope with their Radeon RX 7800 XT OC. Instead of getting an NVIDIA RTX 4070 Super, you can instead get this one. The added VRAM also helps in taking advantage of high resolution monitors and you don’t have to pay an arm and a leg for it.
The ASUS TUF Gaming RX 7800 XT OC has proven itself as a card that delivers in terms of performance, cooling, and build. The whole package just exudes dependability with its backplate and premium build. It also comes with a graphics card holder to support its weight. Overall, a very decent package from ASUS and if you’re in the market looking to upgrade or to get your hands on a Radeon RX 7800 XT, then best consider this one.
The ASUS TUF Gaming RX 7800 XT OC is available in the Philippines and you can buy it via local and online stores. As of the writing of this review, the card has an SRP of PhP 37,700. The card comes with a whopping 3-year warranty which can be further extended to a 4-year one if you register it.
