ASUS creeps further into the enthusiast mechanical keyboard space with the new ROG Strix Scope II 96 Wireless. It will the first keyboard that will sport their new ROG NX Snow linear switches and has a tri-mode connection.
As its name suggests, the ROG Strix Scope II 96 Wireless is a 96-key layout with wireless connectivity. It’s slightly smaller than a full 104 board and removes the upper navigation cluster and instead binds them as secondary functions on the number pad. They are bundling in a magnetic wrist rest for additional typing comfort.
It will support Bluetooth, USB-C, and 2.4GHz connectivity. 2.4GHz communication is done via its ROG Omni Receiver that can support another wireless accessory like the ROG Gladius III Wireless. It seems that ASUS will be using this receiver for future 2.4GHz wireless products for seamless connectivity between peripherals.
The ROG NX Snow is a new entry in the brand’s NX branded switches. It is a linear switch which has a slightly shorter throw of 3.6mm, a light 45g actuation, and is pre-lubed out of the factory. The top housing is made out of PC while the bottom housing is POM for smoother feel. They do feel far smoother than standard linears in the market when we tried them out on the Computex floor. There’s also a silicone pad between the plate and PCB to reduce noise.
ASUS claims that the keyboard can last up to 15,000 hours on a single charge. The switches are hot-swappable and can be replaced with other NX switches but we were unable to confirm if we can use other aftermarket switches. Its lighting, macros, and customizable hotkeys can be adjusted via Armoury Crate.
Pricing and availability for the ASUS ROG Strix Scope II 96 Wireless is yet to be announced. It does not have an OLED screen like the ROG Azoth, however, so we expect it to be priced below the ASUS flagship mechanical keyboard.
