Asus Zenbook UX305 In-Depth Review

Performance

The back of the notebook has these two little “feet” that will lift the notebook up when you open the screen. Presumably for better ventilation because this notebook is fanless.

As for temperature, I bench-marked both the UX305 and MacBook Air at the same time for one hour and it is pretty obvious that the UX305 doesn’t get that hot, you’ll feel the heat once in a while but it is bearable. Intel throttles the CPU down so it is impossible to overheat.

Audio-Wizard

In terms of sound, the notebook comes with a software called AudioWizard by IcePower which includes different profiles for different kinds of situations. There’s a little difference when you use your headphones but on speakers, they will all sound the same.

The speakers themselves are pretty small and the sound quality is a bit poor. For a notebook this size, you might as well have expected it. They are also a bit quiet that you may have a trouble hearing even when you turn the volume up to max.

For gaming, I’m actually surprised that you can even play at all. If you want to play Dota 2, you can play the game with the lowest settings and you’ll have 20-25fps which is bearable but Heroes of the Storm is not playable with 10fps even on the lowest possible setting. The one and only game you can play at optimal setting is Counter Strike: GO which can run at 30-35fps.

The battery is very impressive. You’ll get 2-3 hours of CS:GO gameplay on this notebook, 6 hours of playing movies and 7-8 hours of normal usage (Surfing the web and reading e-mails).

Verdict

The UX305 will be an excellent choice for most of the people. It’s inexpensive, has a great screen, it’s thin, very lightweight and portable and has a good battery life. The one thing that everyone will hate about it is the trackpad, so if you need a very reliable trackpad, you’ll have to look elsewhere. But if you’re comfortable using an average trackpad or if you are that type of guy that always packs an external mouse, this is an impressive notebook.

The Asus Zenbook UX305 is locally priced at Php 34,995 and Php 46,996 for the 4GB RAM/128GB SSD and 8GB RAM/256 SSD respectively. The only available color as of now is the Obsidian Stone (Black), we don’t have news yet if the Ceramic Alloy and Aurora Metallic variants will be available for purchase locally.
