We all desire for a notebook that can do everything, but the problem is that it’s either expensive, heavy, bulky or just right not just for your taste. For a professional like me, I like my laptops to be light and simple, but has the processing power to do the everyday corporate marketer like I am.
Enter the VivoBook S510, this is a 15.6″ laptop in a 14″ body thanks to its new nano-edge technology. But, no more Numpad keys here as it’s becoming unnecessary for a 15″ laptop.
Bezels in this laptop are thin enough similar to their ZenBook range, this gives immersive viewing experience despite the large screen. A trend we like for ASUS as this is becoming a standard now even to entry laptops.
The case lid is a full metal with hairline finishes, the finish is similar to their premium laptops though not carrying their famous concentric circle design. But, it’s still flashy enough especially when set aside with a MacBook.
The VivoBook S510 is a powerful laptop with Core i7-7500U, 8GB RAM, 1TB SSHD Storage and even a 2GB NVIDIA GeForce 940MX for casual graphics. The 15.6″ display is crisp and clear thanks to its 1920×1080 resolution and good color gamut range for colorful display. It’s also just enough for outside brightness conditions, good for using it besides a window on a bright sunny day.
The left side brings you two USB ports, SD Card Reader and light indicators for the processing and battery.
While the right side brings you the HDMI, USB, Charger port, 3.5mm audio jack and a USB type-c cable for display or transfer purposes.
The keyboard area is made of plastic, in good finish and quality as well. It has a semi-rough texture for better ergonomics and it doesn’t feel hot even in long duration of use.
The big trackpad is capable of multi-gestures for up to three fingers, it also has a fingerprint scanner for the latest Windows login.
Speakers are located at the bottom firing towards you, it’s loud enough for most applications to be appreciated. But don’t expect any intense treble or even bass as it’s simply not possible for a laptop at this size.
I won’t be breaking down the experience here by the photo as this laptop is more for productivity and not gaming. Instead, I will try to explain my experience in the best relatable situation.
All these are easy with the VivoBook S510 is minor hiccups cause of its SSHD drive. The bottleneck is more into the storage, rather than the memory and processor. Though it’s still fast, just forgive for sometimes especially loading big files like 100mb+
Well, to be honest, I wasn’t able to play games on this laptop. But PUBG can play in low settings for decent gaming, it’s enough to let you play Overwatch, PUBG, etc with minimal graphics requirements.
It’s really more into casual gaming such as Dota 2, League of Legends, etc.
In my everyday usage, the VivoBook S510 can last for around 4 hours in a single charge, it’s enough for outside meetings and goes back to work in your desk to charge. Productivity wise, this laptop can deliver.
The VivoBook S510 is a nice choice for a laptop worth 50k, this can give you decent performance and the portability you need for a corporate setup. Though we have to give you a heads up that even ASUS’ own affordable gaming laptops such as ASUS FX series laptops that are in the same price band.
There are many configurations of the S510 in the market, ranging from 43
We suggest you get the latest SSD storage setup such as the one below for the best experience. This will remove the hiccup loading time I mentioned when opening big files, and give you faster response in Google Chrome, Photoshop and even excel.
So, if you are into a laptop search for a 15″ capable driver, the VivoBook S510 is actually a nice model to consider. It’s just enough for casual gaming and heavy corporate job paperwork.
