In an interview with Atari CEO Fred Chesnais revealed that the company will be returning to the hardware business. For those who are unfamiliar, Atari made the Atari 2600 back in 1977, which popularized the use of microprocessor-based hardware and ROM cartridges that shaped the console market for nearly two decades.
Hailed as the “Ataribox,” details about Atari’s newest device is sparse at the moment. The only information that’s concrete is that the Ataribox will be based on PC technology, which is pretty vague since both the PS4 and the Xbox One are essentially using PC hardware with a proprietary OS on top.
