Do you have an extension beside your bed every night to charge all of your devices? Well…we do before and it’s annoying, to be honest. That’s why in late 2015, wall chargers have become a trend to replace the charger heads of your different devices.
We’ve been a user of Aukey since mid-2016 (PA-Y5) with their quick charge 3.0 wall chargers, but the company recently had a re-launch in the Philippines through distributor Spitze Trading. One of their flagship wall chargers is the PA-Y11 6 Port with Qualcomm quick-charge 3.0 technology and up to 60W rated power.
Well for starters, it removes clutter anywhere you go. You have 6 ports ready to charge your devices up to 2.4A with Aukey’s AiPower technology. In our experience, we get 2.1A – 2.4A charging rate easily as long as the cable and device support 5V / 2.4A charging rate.
Every device has a maximum threshold of charging rate, that’s why it’s neat the Aukey’s AiPower can detect this. So in our most extreme situation, we were charging 3 phones (iPhone 7 Plus, LG G5, LG V20) which two can use the Quick Charge 3.0 charging ports, a smartwatch, a power bank and a portable speaker. All of these devices have been charged without any worries of slow or underpowered charging.
Aside from multi-ports, the advantage of this is portability. This can be your charger in long trips in exchange of multiple charger heads, and it does impress a lot of people when you bring it out. Sometimes it made us a charging station in some events or trips.
The body is made of matte black plastic with teal color for the AiPower ports and orange for the Quick Charge 3.0 ports. But should you need the QC (Quick-Charge) 3.0 ports to a non-QC device, it’s also possible to use it regularly.
Before we were using a less powerful wall charger without any QC capability and unfortunately fried out. It smelled like burned electronics even at normal load and eventually died out. You can hear the broken fuse rattling inside when it broke down, an indication of it’s fail safe mechanism. It only lasted around 4 months, but even our 1st Aukey wall charger is still alive and kicking for 9 months now.
How much does this PA-Y11 Wall charger cost? Well, it does have a premium of Php3,149 price tag but worth well for its purpose. If you have a lot of mobile gadgets, you definitely need one of these as this is an investment to clean up your clutter and charge with confidence.
If there is something Aukey could improve on this, it’s probably to include a possible stand for better and organized cable management. With 6 USB cables attached, it would be nice to place it as a center table or bed table accessory for quick access.
The package comes with a high-quality Aukey Micro-USB cable and wall socket, just a reminder that you need to also use 2A and above charging rated cabled to fully maximize the product. If there is one thing we learned, low ampere cables usually break not because of frequent use but incompatible charging rate, ex.(Charging a 2A charger to a 1.5A rated cable).
Aukey products are now available in various stores nationwide like Power Mac Center, Elecom, Urbanize, Bratpack, iStudio, Astrovision, Astroplus Odyssey, Urban Gadgets, Mobile 1, Gadgets in style, and Globe Gen 3 stores. Online stores like Lazada, You Pound It, Takatack, Tackthis!, iGig center, and Technoholics.
