Aurous: Free way to stream music

Just like Spotify, Spinnr and Apple Music, this new app dubbed as Aurous offers a selection of sons available to stream direct from dedicated apps. But unlike any other applications mentioned, Aurous is totally free with no ads. While the library is still small and its model is not as obviously illegal like torrenting, Aurous will still be the app that can outrun the others.

Aurous is made by developer Andrew Sampson and launched in alpha this week, it uses more than 120 public API’s to collate tracks from services like SoundCloud, YouTube and even Spotify. It uses peer-to-peer networking, but not in a very legal way.

If you look at it, the free service is similar to Popcorn Time – it’s dubbed as the “Netflix for free” service that offered a slate of movies and TV shows for free. The developers are saying that they are not planning to go after licensing deals as paid-for music services have, it means that the app has the issue of legality. But you know, we’re still going to use it.

The app is available for Windows, Mac and Linux. You can go to their website to download the app here.
