While Marvel is throwing Avengers, X-Men, and solo heroes around, with a couple of Netflix series – DC strongly anchors their cinematic strides en route to a full Justice League movie.
Thus, Batman v Superman.
Before moving forward, we want to thank MSI Philippines, Warner Bros, and Intel Philippines for inviting us to their block screening for the movie. If you are in need of a new gaming PC, you should check out MSI’s newest Skylake ready motherboards here or visit MSI Philippines’ facebook page.
The HYPE for this movie was astounding – the expectations, especially for DC fanatics was very strong; thankfully it was better than expected. I felt that this was better than the Marvel movies (except for Deadpool), and it gave DC fans a familiar approach alongside current DC – related movies like the Dark Knight (except for Ryan Reynold’s Green Lantern) and other TV series like the Gotham, Arrow and The Flash.
Henry Cavill returns as Clark Kent/ Superman, Amy Adams returns as Lois Lane. A continuation from the previous Man of Steel movie, Batman v Superman introduces Ben Affleck as a mature, darker and broken Bruce Wayne. Apart from the Dark Knight and the Man of the Steel, the movie also introduces Diana / Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) and Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) as the main protagonist.
Snippets of the whole Justice League member were also shown – The Flash (Ezra Miller), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and Aquaman (Jason Mamoa). Unfortunately, no Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter for this version of the Justice League. Wonder Woman cinematic film with Gal Gadot should be released by 2017, Ezra Miller’s The Flash and Jason Mamoa’s Aquaman should be out by 2018 in preparation for Justice League Part One next year and Justice League Part 2 in 2019.
Doomsday made an early but quick appearance on this franchise. He died on this movie (while killing Superman). Jesse Eisenberg has one style of acting – A boastful cunt that talks a lot – He would’ve been a great Joker, and Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor of Smallville, The Flash in Justice League animated) could’ve been casted as this film’s Lex. Gal Gadot seems off to be Wonder Woman, but gorgeouslybeautiful though. And then there was Jeremy Irons as Alfred.
Batman v Superman is a very dark movie. Personally, I find it darker than Christian Bale’s Batman. This film is a mix of action, thriller, a bit of horror, suspense, and a pinch of Lawrence Fishburne. What I really like about this movie is how the audience will find the emotional pull from Ben Affleck’s aged, angry and broken Batman, and Henry Cavill’s hopeful, and kind Superman.
My dilemma was whom to root for and it was a hard decision. I found myself, as a human being, rooting for the Dark Knight all the way, but then he went all loco on Superman, and found myself cheering for Lois Lane who would’ve saved the world and ended the movie if she was not stupid bitch and threw Batman’s Kryptonite spear into the water.
Over-all the movie was great. This should be a template for all Batman movie, and one of the best comic to big screen adaptation. I was a little disappointed with an early and raw appearance of Doomsday and the nonsensical cameo of The Flash, Cyborg and Aquaman; but was super satisfied on how the film gave priority to flesh out Batman’s very deep, intelligent but emotional character in contrast to Superman’s. They did show the Dark Knight’s prowess in technology, but did not go more compared to Christian Bale’s Dark Knight franchise.
If you’ve watched the movie, you may also want to read this awesome theory on Bruce Wayne’s Knightmare scene. This somehow clears a dozen of unclear scenes in the movie, like Flash warning Bruce, Cyborg being part of the movie and not Green Lantern, what Lex Luthor found out from the Kryptonian scout ship, and hey who could top Doomsday? Darkseid.
