Boon Tong Kee started in the Philippines 2 years ago and now with 4 branches, Hungry Geeks is honored to try out their star dishes. Find out below our experience in the Power Plant Mall branch.

Appetizer

Prawn Toast : Php275 – 4pcs

Toasted Prawn

For starters is their Prawn Toast made of crispy toast on the bottom, topped with prawn. The toast made it crispy while keeping the prawn soft at the center. Combination taste with the fish eggs and green tea mayo gives it a delightful starter for the main course.

Crispy Beancurd – Php185

Tofu

Next is the Crispy Beancurd which is tofu wrapped in light dough. The soft tofu inside paired with the baked dough in the outside results to a moist and nice taste. Paired with the floss on top and green tea mayo balances the taste.

Poached Chinese Spinach with Assorted Eggs -Php295

Brocoli Soup

Our soup was rather interesting, the Poached Chinese Spinach with Assorted Eggs was composed of three different kinds of eggs (Regular Egg, Century Egg and Salted Egg) paired on top is the Anchovy (Dilis) that gives the dish the salty taste. We recommend to taste it with an egg and few anchovies to balance the overall taste.

Main Course

Chicken Rice – Php65

Chicken Rice

Of course as Filipinos or generally Asians, we love our rice. For this opportunity we tried the chicken rice to pair with the meals.

Signature Boiled Chicken (Half) – Php455

Boiled ChickenWe will be straight forward for this one, this is the best Boiled Chicken we have ever tasted so far. The chicken used is very clean even on the skin, resulting to unnecessary bitter tastes.  In result is a pure bold chicken with soft meat, perfect to pair with the Chicken Rice.

Cereal Prawn (Large) – Php675

Cereal Prawn

The star for the meal was definitely the Cereal Prawn. The Cereal and prawns itself are big, definitely premium. As told by the head waitress in the restaurant, they pick the best prawns everyday for serving. A visit to Boon Tong Kee isn’t recommended without having Cereal Prawn.

Hakaw – Php125

DSC06941

Chinese cuisine isn’t complete without Hakaw or Siomai. Yes the tail of the shrimp is still there, we asked and they said its part of their serving. Best eaten while its hot.

Sweet and Sour Pork – Php245
Sweet and Sour PorkYou may have tasted Sweet and sour pork before but Boon Tong Kee’s version is quite different. Guaranteed of the crispy outside texture while still battered in sauce is definitely delightful, but added with indian mangos that serves as the sweetener made the dish completely different. You should try it too, definitely you won’t regret.

Dessert

Sago at Gulaman-Melaka with Vanilla Ice Cream – Php145

Sago't Gulaman

They say save the best for the last and dessert was definitely it. Their Sago’t Gulaman with Melaka (Palm Sugar) was outstanding. Instead of using caramelized sugar, the Palm Sugar brought this dish to another level. Paired with the Vanilla Ice cream is a very pleasurable taste. Its really hard to describe taste especially desserts but, this one is just plain heavenly.

So how much was the whole meal good for 5-6 people? A total of Php2,595 (Not including 10% service charge). Priced very reasonably for the wide variety of food and delicious servings. They also have other food servings like Laksa, Fish Roe and more. So overall we recommend you try out Boon Tong Kee next time you want Chinese style food, its definitely delicious.
