BYD Cars Philippines has unveiled the new BYD eMAX9 DM-I at the 13th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit. It is positioned as a mid-size MPV with sustainable luxury in mind.

The BYD eMAX 9 DM-I comes with the brand’s Dragon Face design language with its signature LED lighting and 18-inch alloy wheels. Getting in and out is effortless thanks to its hands-free side door opening and tailgate. There’s also a built-in refrigerator for refreshments while occupants inside can enjoy their own ideal temperature with its Tri-Zone cooling system.

A seven-seat cabin is available in two variants. The Premium variant offers ventilated and massage functionality for the captain and driver’s seat, while the Advanced Model come with manually adjustable captain seats. Both are outfitted with leather interiors: Beige and Brown for the Premium, and Black for the Advanced. A 15.6-inch infotainment system, 12-speaker sound system, and sunroof are available for the Premium while the Advanced settles for an 8-speaker sound system.

At the core of the BYD eMAX 9 DM-i is their Super DM-I technology that pairs a high-power electric motor with a 1.5-liter turbocharged generator. Together, they produce a total system output of 271PS and 315Nm of torque, enabling the car to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 8.5 seconds.

The BYD eMax 9 DM-i offers up to 170km of pure-electric range with its 36.6kWh battery on the Premium version while the 20.4kWh battery of the Advanced model can reach up to 95km. Both variants can reach a combined range of up to 1,000km for the former and up to 945km for the latter.

BYD’s claim was put to the test by an Automobile Association of the Philippines-certified run led by Louis Ramirez. The Premium variant of the car embarked a journey across Luzon for a total of 1.261.2km on one full tank and one full battery charge from BYD Manila Bay in Pasay City to Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, with a return trip.

It supports up to 7kW AC and 73kW DC Fast Charging. Using the charger the Advanced and Premium models are able to reach full charge in about 3 hours and 5 hours, respectively. The DC Fast Charger can fill up its electric tank from 30% to 80% in around 20 minutes.

The vehicle can also transform into a mobile power source capable of running small appliances or essential devices for road trips, outdoor adventures, or emergency situations.

The Premium version come with other advantages like BYD’s DiSus-C suspension that electronically adjusts its dampeners to enhance ride stability and comfort. It also integrates DiPilot Advanced Driver Assistance System, cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind spot detection, lane keeping assist, and 360-degre panoramic camera and rear cross-traffic alert.

The BYD eMAX 9 DM-i is priced at PhP 2,678,000 and PhP 2,998,000 in the Philippines for its Premium and Advanced variants, respectively. Both models are available in Cosmos Black, Deep Sea Blue, and Aurora White colorways.

Both variants are backed by BYD’s comprehensive warranty: 8 years or 160,000 km for the Blade Battery, 8 years or 160,000km for the drive unit, and 6 years or 150,000 km for the vehicle.
