BYD Sealion 6 DM-i Compact Hybrid SUV has arrived in the Philippines via ACMobility – the official distributor of BYD cars in the country. BYD’s latest hybrid SUV promises an extended range of more than 1,000km.
The Sealion 6 DM-I takes advantage of BYD’s Super DM-I platform that assures smooth, quiet, and efficient electric driving experience compared to a traditional HEV. On a single charge and full tank, it can travel up to 1,000km making it efficient for city commutes or long drives.
Its permanent synchronous magnet motor is paired with an 18.3 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate BYD Blade battery that sends power to the front wheels via an E-CVT. With its battery, the SUV produces 197 PS and 32 Nm from its motor and can travel around 105km in full EV mode. With its range extender, full power output jumps to 217 PS while retaining the same torque figures. The SUV can also accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds.
To test its capabilities, two Sealion 6 DM-i SUVs took off from Bonifacio Global City to drive the demanding Luzon loop last July 20 to 24, 2024. Both were given the goal of driving to Metro Manila to Tuguegarao, to Ilocos, then La Union, and finally back to BGC on one full charge and full tank of its range extender.
During the challenge, both cars drove a total of 1,297.6 kilometers. They still had battery charge good for 30 more kilometers and up to 247 kilometers from the range extender. On the 4th day, the team decided to drive to Subic Bay to test its limits. At the end of the journey, both SUVs drove a distance of 1,608km with 48km left on their extended battery range. The exercise was observed by the Automobile Association of the Philippines to document its safety and legality.
The BYD Sealion 6 DM-i Compact Hybrid SUV measures in at 4,775mm in length, 1,890mm in width, and 1,670mm in height. Its design is based on the new Ocean X Face design for a streamlined look. It comes with wide front grilles with double U-shaped suspension highlights. The headlamps are paired with built-in crystal texture light belts for a distinctive look. The Ocean X design continues to its 19-inch alloy wheels and Ocean Starlight-inspired rear facia with full-width tail lights and sequential turn signals.
For its interior, it offers leather seats with 8-way driver and 4-way passenger power adjustability. Both front seats come with heating and ventilation functions. Its acoustic window panels at the front come standard to isolate road noise from entering the cabin.
Internal electronics include a 12.3-inch LCD for its digital instrument cluster, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and 10-speaker Infinity sound system. BYD DiLink allows the SUV to have 4G connectivity, voice assistant, and OTA updates. There’s also keyless entry, dual 15W wireless chargers, NFC card access, USB-A and Type-C ports for both rows, and a 12-volt power socket.
The Sealion 6 DM-I will come with plenty of safety features including six airbags, ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution, traction control system, electronic stability control system, hill descent control, and a tire pressure monitoring system. There are also plenty of advanced driver assistance systems:
