In Ghost of Yotei, players get to meet Atsu’s brother during the course of the story. In the game’s climax, Jubei and Atsu duel against their parents’ killer, Saito. Are there any things that you need to do in Ghost of Yotei to save Jubei during this fight? Read on to know more.
Oh, and obviously, spoilers ahead!
There is no way to save Jubei in Ghost of Yotei. Unlike the ending in its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima, there is no alternate ending in this game. Choices that you make before the duel do not matter. There are also no items to collect to ensure Jubei’s survival. In the climactic fight, Jubei is set to die and you unfortunately cannot change that.
As expected, mixed reactions are buzzing about as Jubei’s death could have been prevented in more ways than one. Players are more likely to enter the final duel with a lot of skills and abilities on their belt. This means that the fight is likely to have been incredibly easy for most players by this time. Having Jubei force himself into the fight unnecessarily has irked some players, knowing that Atsu could have handled the fight herself.
Although it may seem forced, the developers may have intended the loss of Jubei as a consequence of the cycle of revenge. If it isn’t obvious yet, revenge and its cycle is one of the main themes of Ghost of Yotei. There are moments in the game in which Atsu could have walked out of the conflict, but her uncontrolled desire to avenge her family have brought upon misery and demise to not only her, but even to those around her.
As a consequence of his participation in the final duel, Jubei ultimately meets his demise. In the ending, he is seen buried beside his parents’ grave, underneath the Ginkgo Tree where everything began. Jubei’s daughter, Kiku, is seen to be under the care of Atsu as they both lead a new life away from the fights, carrying with them both the satisfaction of revenge and the burden of Jubei’s loss.
