Canon EOS R officially launched in PH, now available in stores

-

The Canon EOS R, the brand’s first foray into the full-frame mirrorless camera world, has finally entered in the Philippines. Updating Canon’s longstanding array of cameras, the EOS R comes with the latest and greatest features that Canon has put into a camera yet.

Using a 35mm full-frame 30.3 Dual Pixel CMOS AF sensor allows the Canon EOS R to have an ISO range of 100 to 40,000 (to an extended 50, 51,200, and 102,400) that promises to deliver amazing low-light shots. The sensor is backed by Canon’s DIGIC 8 processor with Auto Lighting Optimizer that balances images with intricate details in highlights and shadows.

The Canon EOS R also comes with Dual Sensing IS that detects camera shake and implements image stabilization, which is said to be equivalent to a maximum of five shutter speed stops. This allows the camera to take sharp photos even in slow shutter speeds.

Focusing speed has been massively improved on the Canon EOS R with the camera having only an AF speed of 0.05 courtesy of the Dual Pixel CMOS AF. Users can also choose up to 5,665 AF positions. Photographers can now also take advantage of the easier implementation of Eye Detection AF that can track a subject’s pupils in low-light conditions of up to EV-6.

The body of the Canon EOS R comes with a 3.69 OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF), which the brand says has an approximate coverage of 100% vertically. The EOS R is also the first camera from Canon to have an FV exposure mode. This allows its user to allow auto and direct control in one single mode for shutter, aperture, and ISO without taking your eyes away from the EVF.

The mount, however, has been changed into a new 54mm diameter RF mount that shortens the flange focal distance to just 20mm. Canon says this was done to improve communication between the lenses and the EOS R’s body.

Users of existing EF lenses don’t need to fret though as they will be able to use their lenses with an EF to RF adapter with almost full functionality.

At this time, there are only four lenses that are native to the RF mount:

  • 35mm F1.8 IS Macro STM
  • 50mm 1.2L USM
  • 24 – 105mm F4L IS UISM
  • 24 – 70mm F2L USM

The Canon EOS R is now available in stores with the body only model costing up to PhP 147,998 while getting the body + RF 24 – 105mm USM kit lens is at PhP 214,998.
