Capturing Zoo Animals using the ROG Phone 8 Pro – Camera Focus

Yes you’ve read that right, the ROG Phone 8 particularly the Pro version is one smartphone that the Republic of Gamers is advertising as a smartphone with more focus on photography. To be honest their drastic redesign to be more normal looking while strikingly being a gaming smartphone is a welcome for us as we strongly believe that it makes the smartphone series more appealing to non-gaming audiences.

Great Set of Triple Camera

The camera system of the ROG Phone 8 Pro particularly a 50MP Sony IMX890 with OIS leads the pack to capture details, while a 32MP f/2.4, OIS, 3X optical zoom telephoto lens assist and a 13MP UltraWide-angle camera gives flexibility.

The interface of the ROG Phone 8 Pro’s camera system is fast and responsive, plus the resolution upscale unlike other phones that preview in a lower scale to avoid latency. Though we wished that ASUS ROG would have considered to have a bit of color variation to their menu system as its all too white and black.

Visiting the Zoo

So we visited the Toronga Zoo which is the main zoo of Sydney Australia located on the other side of the river of Sydney Opera house. Below are some animals that we took photos and adored.

Here you can see a dingo sleeping over a rock steep, having its own world and ignoring all the visitors of the zoo. In this photo we notice even at 3x optical zoom, there is a strong color recognition and decent level of high dynamic range.

These cool and funky looking Bindi Irwin chickens were captured at 3x optical zoom, its nice that the feathers are still captured well but with a bit of soft noise already on the photo.

Relax, relax it’s just a Capybara chilling under the shade of a tree, how we wish that we can also do the same all day.

A young kangaroo resting under a rock shade, here you can see somewhat a bit of a flat color treatment in the Photo especially in the red shade.

Nope this isn’t the Philippines, still in Australia. A Chicken Rooster is also found and they are treated for their domestic capabilities to provide food to people in a community.

The bird is watching in camouflage, we like the subtle color treatment here with proper exposure levels that captured this nest properly. The feather treatment and details is prestine that it doesn’t diminish in quality.

A young macropidine kangaroo is caught staring at us, judging us in why we are taking a photo perhaps? Or perhaps it might be the AniMe vision text caught his attention.

Smile! It’s nice to see animals up close like this. We love this photo cause of the bright and strong focus at the Australian tourist. We just notice that the HDR in this photo could be a bit more improved in the highlights for better representation of shadows.

To end the day high we watched the bird exhibition featuring birds with amazing skills such as hovering, flying, fetching and even landing with precision onto the stage. If you have a chance to visit this place, we recommend to watch this performance.

To end the afternoon we took this Sydney City view, even at x3 optical zoom this is still very clear and story telling scenery. The clouds are really nice in this photo, every layer and light is distinguished to make it center of the picture.

At the end of our vacation trip, we love the results of the photos taken by ROG Phone 8 Pro. Its sleeker, better in optics and still can do gaming all while you’re on vacation cause our daily commissions is still important.

Either you get the regular 8 or 8 Pro, both units have the same camera system so it will be only a matter of preference should you want to get the pro version.
