Unveiled back in November of 2017, the new Peso coins from the Bank Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) have received some backlash in social media due to their extremely different design and size compared to the old Peso coins. This is especially true with the new five Peso coin, which almost has the same diameter as the new (and old) one peso coin.
BSP has just released a quick guide to let you differentiate the old and new peso coins from one another:
As you can see from the guide above, the new five Peso coin is just 2mm larger than the new one Peso coin unlike the 3mm difference from the previous coins. The new five peso coin, however, does keep its plain edges compared to the intermittent reeds from the one peso coin that can make it easier for you to tell the coins apart from your pocket or bag.
