Converge ICT and DITO Telecommunity has signed a Master Provisioning Agreement (MFPA) that will allow them to share select terrestrial and submarine fiber optical cable assets under mutually agreed upon terms and improve their respective Internet services in the Philippines.
The resource-sharing arrangement will strengthen both network operators as this can translate to expanded coverage and increased redundancy plus it will save them from increased operational cost and reduce capital expenditure requirements.
Converge Chief Operations Officer Jesus Romero noted that this milestone agreement propels both networks as the pure fiber network of Converge matches the new network of DITO Telecommunity.
DITO Telecommunity Chief Technology Officer Major General Rodolfo D. Santiago (ret) added “This agreement strengthens both our networks and eliminates the costly time, motion, financial, and manpower resources involved for such a network enhancement undertaking.”
The partnership aims to achieve lower downtime, faster throughput, and more reliable connectivity, which may lead to further enhancement of the experience of the companies’ respective subscribers.
As of November 2023, Converge says that its total fiber assets span around 682,000km and passes over 16.7 million homes. Household coverage is now at 62.3% of the total households in the Philippines. The company has also doubled the speeds of its plans last year with its entry-level plans now delivering up to 200Mbps for PhP 1,500 per month.
DITO Telecommunity, who launched its network back in February 2021, now has more than 7,000 cell sties covering over 80% of the population in 850 cities and municipalities in the country. They say that they have around 9.5 million subscribers under their pure 4G/5G network. Last June 2023, they rolled out their 5G postpaid plans with SIM-only plans starting at FlexPlan 588 with 16GB of monthly data.
