5 Different Difficulty Settings

| Story | Isaac deals much more damage, takes much less damage, and his oxygen tank lasts much longer. Isaac also heals automatically, and enemy grappling attacks are much easier to escape. |
| Easy | Isaac deals more damage and takes less damage, and his oxygen tank lasts somewhat longer. Enemy grappling attacks are somewhat easier to escape |
| Medium | Enemies and Isaac both take baseline damage. |
| Hard | Isaac takes much more damage. Enemies take much less damage. |
| Impossible | A special challenge mode. Completing it will earn a unique suit and weapon. This mode has the same damage settings as Hard Difficulty, but autosaves are disabled; only one save slot is available, and one life. Dying prompts a full restart or continuing on Hard Difficulty. |
Finish The Game To Unlock Impossible Difficulty
Wait, I can only see four? Where’s the fifth one? The fifth one can only be unlocked after you finish the game for the first time. Impossible difficulty requires you to finish the game once but unfortunately, you cannot play new game plus on impossible and the highest difficulty you can play new game plus is on Hard.
Affects Game Length
Obviously, the difficulty on how you play Dead Space Remake greatly affects your experience and the time you can spend to finish it. If you are after just the story, select “Story” or “Easy” as your difficulty. However, if you want to experience the game as it was designed with a bit of challenge, best select either “Medium” or “Hard”.
Unlock A Secret Weapon & Armor
Should you fancy more of Dead Space Remake with a lot of challenge, best select “Impossible” as your next difficulty after you finish the game for the first time. Unlike other difficulties, you can only play “Impossible” under New Game and you cannot play it on New Game Plus. This means that you have to start from zero but you do get a secret weapon and armor for beating the game.
You Can Change Difficulty Mid-Game
If you find the game too hard or less challenging, you can change the difficulty on the fly while playing the game.

- Pause the game
- Select “Settings”
- Select “Gameplay”
- Choose “Select Difficulty”
- Choose which difficulty you want and confirm to apply
