Dota 2 Reborn Now Available

Just a week ago, Valve announced the new Dota 2 Reborn, but surprisingly, the Source 2 revamp is available in beta right now.

“Unlike our traditional Test client, your match history, MMR, cosmetic items, and friends are shared across the two versions,” Valve’s announcement stated.

“However, Ranked Matchmaking is not enabled yet. We anticipate that we’ll be able to turn it on in a few days, but we need more testing of the basic functionality first. Also, it is possible new items may make their first appearance in either the beta or the main client. These items may be temporarily missing from the other client while their assets are converted.”

Dota 2 is now powered by the Source 2 engine, Valve’s latest game development platform. This means that ongoing development in the new engine will continue to improve Dota 2. Source 2 includes technology for rendering improvements, performance optimizations, higher fidelity content, and richer, more dynamic games.

Major changes include:

• Tiled Map System
• Enhanced Performance
• Multithreading and Streaming
• Improved Audio
• Improved Rendering
• New version of physics and simulation
• Multiplatform

To install the new Dota 2 Reborn beta:

1. Download and install Dota 2 if you haven’t already
2. Launch Dota 2
3. Go to the play section and select Dota 2 Reborn beta
4. Click install to begin your download
5. Once you’ve installed the beta, you will be able to choose to use it or the old client everytime you start the game.

Match history, rank, items and friends will be the same for both clients. Although the ranked matchmaking will not be enabled in the beta, expect it to come up soon.
