Sony has officially unveiled the new wireless controller that the upcoming PlayStation 5 is getting. Dubbed DualSense, this new controller has been redesigned to look futuristic while still being familiar to the traditional PlayStation controller design.
The new DualSense controller for the PlayStation 5 focuses on immersion by adding haptic feedback to the controller as well as adaptive triggers into the L2 and R2 buttons of the controller. Sony says that this feedback allows for more sensations while playing games.
DualSense is also adding a built-in microphone array to allow players to chat with friends without a headset. Based on the photos, it seems that the device will be charged via a USB Type-C port at the back.
The Share button found on the DualShock 4 has been removed and has been replaced with a “Create” button. Like the Share button, the Create button enables for players to record gameplay and share it to the world or enjoy it for themselves. More details will be provided for the DualSense’s Create button as we get closer to the PlayStation 5’s launch.
Instead of a singular color, Sony is shipping the new controller with a two-tone design. The light bar now resides on both sides of the touch pad in order to give the pad a slightly larger look and feel according to Sony.
More details about the controller and the PlayStation 5 console itself are expected to surface in the coming months. It is anticipated that Sony’s latest console will launch this coming Holidays.
