With an average connection speed of 5.5Mps, the Internet connection speed here in the Philippines isn’t exactly the best. It’s a bit perplexing that we still have one of the worst Internet connection speeds in our neck of the woods given that we’re the “Social Networking Capital of the World.”
But if you are one of the few people that has a fiber connection, or at least a decent DSL connection, there is a way that you can earn some extra cash on the side by just sharing your Internet connection with less-fortunate people.
Available in Lazada for PhP 25,999, the Next Buzz Wi-Fi is essentially a fee-based Wi-Fi router to help you (or even businesses like coffee shops and retail stores) to share your Internet connection for a few pesos per hour. It’s completely plug-and-play. You’ll only need to connect the device to an Ethernet port from your main router and you’re golden.
Customers that are interested in connecting to the Wi-Fi signal only needs to enable the Wi-Fi connection on your gadget, connect the hotspot, and tap the phone on the Next Buzz Wi-Fi. Of course when your allotted time lapses, you’ll only need to drop a few pesos on the machine to enjoy Wi-Fi for a few more hours.
It’s an interesting business model if you’re not maximizing the bandwidth of your Internet connection. This is a bit sad because the rise of this kind of business proves that not all people can get their own Internet connection. Hopefully, we’ll get improved Internet speeds in the coming years since smaller ISPs such as Converge ICT are starting to traction on the duopoly of Globe and PLDT in the ISP space.
