A flagship-like deserves a large screen

Although the Realme XT isn’t priced like a flagship, some of its specifications are surely flagship-like. First off is its screen. The IPS panel usually found in Realme smartphones have been replaced by a 6.4-inch SuperAMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

Although the dreaded notch still exists, the Realme XT minimizes the space taken by it. The smartphone is also a bit taller having an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 for a total resolution of 2340 x 1080.

The brand has also integrated an in-display fingerprint sensor at the bottom half of the smartphone thus removing the need for a traditional fingerprint scanner at the rear.

New smartphone, faster performance

Although the Realme XT doesn’t have the most powerful chipset in the market, it is still able to challenge some of the contenders in its price range thanks to its Qualcomm Snapdragon 712.

Despite having the same 10nm lithography as the Snapdragon 710, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 promises to deliver a 10% performance gain over its predecessor. This new chip allows the smartphone to capture 3840 x 2160 (4K) video at 30fps.

Performance is also helped by the Realme XT’s RAM, which can be configured to have up to 8GB depending on the model. Larger RAM will allow users to have more apps open at the same time without any delays in immediate performance.

A 64MP main camera

One of the largest attractions of the Realme XT is its rear main camera. The smartphone boasts a 64MP main shooter at the back – one of the largest mega pixel count found on a smartphone yet in the market.

It can be argued that color reproduction and noise reduction are more important in photos than sheer pixel count, it is still impressive that the Realme XT comes with a 64MP main camera.

We’ve taken some test shots with the smartphone’s 64MP main camera and we must say that we’re impressed with the clarity and detail captured by the Realme XT.

Although these photos are taken with great lighting conditions, it is still impressive of what can be achieved with the Realme XT in the right conditions.

Aside from its main camera, the smartphone also comes with three more lenses at the back: an 8MP f/2.3 ultrawide, a 2MP f/2.4 macro, and a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor. These three lenses doesn’t really bring anything special to the XT but they are required in order to complete the package.

Those who like selfies aren’t left out. Resting on the Realme XT’s notch is a 16MP f/2.0 front-facing camera. Industry-standard features are included such as AI and Beautification.

Faster charging via USB Type-C

The Realme XT gets its juice from a 4,000mAh non-removable battery. While not as impressive as the Realme 5’s 5,000mAh battery, the Realme XT should get by a day just fine.

The 4,000mAh battery is backed by a VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 that allows 20W Fast Charging. Thankfully, the Realme XT comes with a USB Type-C port at the bottom for improved ease of use.

Could the Realme XT usher in the era of affordable 64MP cameras?

We’ve only had a short time with the Realme XT, thus we can’t make a conclusion of how the good the device really is. On paper, it has everything to be a great smartphone.

The main draw for most people to the Realme XT must be its 64MP camera. Our limited testing showed great results in well-lit conditions. The rather large pixel count captures the finest details in photos without drowning them in noise.
