Globe ensures to be more stringent against “nakaw load”

-

Ever had that annoying subscription texts that reduces your prepaid load? We recently said that the next concern will be “Nakaw load” with the longer duration of load validity to 1 year.

True enough, Globe Telecom is now enforcing better and tighter rules to protect all its customers against questionable practices of third-party value-added (VAS) providers, which results in prepaid load deduction that customers may mistake as “nakaw load.”

These deductions from load happens when customers click an online advertisement link or a button provided by these VAS providers. Usually, customers that are really interested in these services will receive a verification code via SMS to show them how to opt-in on the service. Some partners, however, don’t follow this rule, which means that they automatically register customers without any kind of consent.

GotDeals Mobile, Inc., had a hit when one of their customers posted on Facebook about a complaint about their loss of load due to 3rd party transactions with Gotdeals Mobile, Inc. The company has since apologize both to Globe Telecom and to their customer and have fixed the issue so it wouldn’t happen to another customer in the future.

Globe is assuring their customers that they have clauses in the contracts with partner content providers that penalizes those who resort to fraud. “We are also implementing stricter opt-in guidelines to make our customers aware that they are signing up for VAS subscription which entails charges,” said Globe General Counsel Atty. Froilan Castelo.

If any Globe customer receive any text messages with an access code, they can text HELP to the access code number to verify the service status. They can also text STOP to discontinue the service if they should so desire.

Globe also has a prepaid load notification service called Load Watch in order to help prepaid customers get real time balance and updates on load usage. These measures should decrease the cases of “nakaw load” if not eliminate them entirely.

This move from Globe is due to a viral social media post about a very dissapointed prepaid customer who loaded 300 pesos and got 19 pesos remaining in just two days. Despite going to the Globe store to check, the store wasn’t that helpful until a very irate tone was given. The post got more than 11,000 shares as of this posting and still growing.

Even before we got numerous annoying transactions from GamePad, a VAS that will automatically subscribe you to JAVA games for 5 pesos a day. Heck, who uses even JAVA games today?, these VAS companies just steal load for useless content.

If you have any other problems, you can reach globe via Twitter at talk2globe, the Globe Telecom official Facebook page, or customer hotlines at 211 for mobile or 730-1000 via landline.
