Globe’s investments in upgrading their network and infrastructure continue to bear fruit as it has delivered enhanced Internet speeds to the customers, with up to 50% improvements compared to last year according to Ookla.
Based on Ookla’s Speed Intelligence Q3 2021, Globe’s mobile median download speed across all technologies zoomed by 60% to 13.53% Mbps. Meanwhile, its media upload speed for mobile surged by 51% to 3.96 Mbps.
Latency has also improved for Globe’s network. Network latency is down to 25ms for Q3 2021 compared to last year’s 31ms in the same period.
“We are glad our aggressive and sustained network builds and upgrades continue to bear fruit as shown by enhanced overall customer data experience,” said Joel Agustin, Globe SVP of Network Technical Group.
Globe attributes its improvement in its mobile network to steady investments in network upgrades and infrastructure development. For this year alone, the telco has raised its capital expenditures to PhP 76 billion.
This allowed Globe to install one million fiber-to-the-home lines as of the end of September 2021, construct 641 new cell towers, and upgrade 8,175 sites to 4G LTE as of June 2021. They have also established 1,800 5G cell towers nationwide and has raised 5G outdoor coverage in the National Capital Region to 95 percent.
