Globe has registered its mobile data traffic last 2017 at 600 petabytes (PB), which is twice more compared to its competition based on disclosures filed at the PSE and SEC. This leads to the conclusion that Globe’s aggressive move to deploy LTE connection to its subscribers in the country is working.
The 600PB of mobile data moved last year by Globe is made even more impressive when taking into account that in 2016, the company’s mobile data traffic was registered at around 361PB: a 66% surge of usage.
Globe had a total of 10,300 LTE base stations at the end of 2017 compared to Smart’s 8,700 base stations. These stations also support 700MHz, 1800MHz, and 2600MHz bands. The steady increase of mobile data usage can also be attributed to Globe sending SMS messages to users who have outdated SIM cards and updating them to LTE-compatible SIM cards without any charges as well as keeping the current mobile number of the user.

We intend to continue investing on LTE to meet the demands of our customers for streaming and always on digital services,” Globe President & CEO Ernest Cu said.
This massive surge of data usage also allowed Globe to rake in PhP 43.1 billion in revenue last year. This accounts to 44% of total mobile service revenues of the company.
Aside from mobile data, Globe has steadily improved their wired connections. Speed tests results for February 2018 shows that the average download and upload speed in the Philippines has increased 15% from last year.
