Globe has already started their 3-pronged strategy to upgrade the data experience of this customers earlier this quarter. Today, Globe has announced that building additional cell sites and upgrading others have exceeded their expectations.
As of this month, Globe now has a total of 7,780 cell sites in the Philippines, which is 26.4% increase compared to last year. Since January, they have also installed 593 new towers which is more than the company has built previously.
Most completed sites reside in Rizal and Quezon City while the majority of the upgrades were done in Bulacan and Cavite. Globe have also bolstered the number of cell sites in challenged areas in parts such as Davao Oriental, Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Norte, Bukidnon, South Cotabato, Maguindanao, Davao Oriental, Isabela, Ilocos Sur, Catanduanes, Marinduque, Southern Leyte, Capiz, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, and parts of Manila and Rizal which had no or partial signal coverage.
“We are committed to fulfill our network upgrades and expansion program in order to improve the connectivity in the country and bring better data experience to our customers. We have regarded the various community lockdowns not as concerns but challenges to deliver more and make the best of the opportunities given to us,” Joel Agustin, Globe Senior Vice President for Program Delivery, Network Technical Group, said.
Globe says that they credit the Joint Memorandum Circular No. 01 s. 2020 signed by the Department of Information and Communications Technology, Department of Interior and Local Government, Anti-Red Tape Authority, and other government agencies and passage of Bayanihan to Recover as One Act 2 as other reasons for fast tracking their efforts to improve Internet speeds and connectivity in the Philippines.
