With more and more people using their smartphone rather than a desktop to browse the web, the monster company has decided to start prioritizing sites that have been optimized for mobile devices over those which are not. Searches made on tablets and PCs are not affected by these changes.
Google started determining sites as mobile-friendly toward the end of last year, but held back from prioritizing them until it would be publicized the plan more widely. This new algorithm mostly affects mobile searches, the company stated that it will have a “significant impact” on how the way search results are given to users.
They also added, “Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices”.
Web developers and website owners can determine if their site meets Google’s mobile-friendly criteria by hitting this website and entering their site URL. If it does, then rejoice, a small “mobile friendly” (out site does) label will appear alongside your website’s title in mobile search results. Although, if it doesn’t, you’d better be planning on making your website more mobile-friendly.
