Google has announced that it is expanding its AI search features thanks to Gemini 2.0. Users will now see more AI Overviews at the top of the results. On top of this, they are rolling out a new AI Mode that completely takes over search, and puts links as secondary options.
Google’s new update will now show more AI Overviews on the result pages. They claim that these will have advanced reasoning, thinking, and multimodal capabilities for complex questions. These overviews will be shown to all users, including teens, as well as users who don’t have a Google account.
AI Mode will be using a custom version of Gemini 2.0 to tackle nuanced or multi-part questions. This will make web links somewhat take the backseat on searches, but they will still be displayed as relevant content.
Google says that discovering content from the web is still their central approach, but AI Mode will make it easy for users to explore and take action.
AI Overviews have been rolled out in the U.S., but are yet to be announced on other countries. On the other hand, you can you can check out AI mode by joining the waitlist in Search Labs.
