Thanks to the Digital Service Law, also known as Republic Act 12023, digital services such as streaming platforms and gaming storefronts (like Steam) are getting 12% value-added tax on their pricing.
HBO Max, however, is fairly new in the Philippines. They have only arrived in the country late last year. With an introductory price starting at PhP 149, they have yet to increase their pricing to reflect additional 12% that the Digital Service Law requires. This makes them one of the most affordable streaming services in the Philippines as of now.
