HMD Global has partnered with Mattel Inc. to release the HMD Barbie Phone and it’s probably the pinkest phone you’ll see. Designed to be small, the pint-sized device is made to take phone calls, texts, and no social media – a perfect alternative for those trying to take a break from smartphones.
HMD’s Barbie Phone comes with a retro flip phone design. Its pink Barbie cover can be changed thanks to a replaceable cover with alternative cases including brightly colored swirls of 1992’s Totally Hair Barbie doll and a “Shooting Heart” design.
You can add your own accessories on the device on its beaded phone strap and you can choose from a selection of sparkly gems and retro vintage Barbie stickers to decorate.
Its design was made in collaboration with the in-house design team at Mattel to bring back the original, vintage-chic Barbie world with a modern sparkle. They are also bundling a set of accessories such as stick-on crystals and retro Barbie stickers.
If you want a vintage look from your photos, the device also comes with a 0.3MP camera with a torch and even a mirror. Its software includes a Barbie-themed skin and even easter eggs when you dial BARBIE on the keypad using *#227243.
The HMD Barbie Phone is priced at USD 129. When directly converted, it is placed at around PhP 7,200. No word yet if it will have a local release in the Philippines.
