To open the white chests with eyes, you only have to sneak and use “Disillusionment”. This spell allows you to bypass the watchful eyes of the chest and get close to get its contents. One thing to remember is that you cannot use the spell right in front of the chest. You must break its line of sight by turning around a corner or going far away first. Once you are in the clear, cast Disillusionment and get close to the chest with an eye.
The main story quest “Secrets of the Restricted Section” is where you can get the “Disillusionment” spell from Sebastion Sallow. This spell allows you to sneak and can be used to bypass or ambush enemies in fights.
All eyed chests have 500 gold or Galleons in them. Opening the chests do not reward you with any equipment and it only offers gold. This amount of gold is pretty substantial especially during the early stages of the game so try to take the contents of these chests whenever you encounter them.
The chests with an eye are scattered around both Hogwarts and Hogsmeade. Roam around these areas and try to seek them out when you can as they reward you with gold/galleons that you can use to purchase consumables or to upgrade your broom.
