Merlin Trials are what you need to solve in order to increase your inventory size. Solving a couple of it unlocks more inventory space, giving you more capacity to store gear. To activate a Merlin Trial, you must first have “mallowsweet” in your inventory. You can buy this item at Hogsmeade.
You can do the Merlin Trials around the game world after you meet Nora Treadwell in the quest “Trials of Merlin”. You can meet her after you complete the quest “The Girl from Uagadou”.
After you solve a certain number of Merlin Trials, you can go to to the “Challenges” menu to unlock more space. You have to do this manually as you have to claim the additional inventory space as a reward for completing the challenge. To do this, go to Challenges > Exploration > Complete Merlin Trials.
If you still find yourself having to contend with the limited inventory space, you can go to Hogsmead to sell your gear. Go to any of the shops and sell some of the obsolete gear that you have for some gold. You can do this quickly without any trouble by simply fast traveling during free roam.
