How To Open Locks

Learn Alohamora First

Hogwarts Legacy Alohamora

Alohamora is the spell that you need to open locks. To get this spell, you must first clear the story mission, “The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament”. During the mission, Hogwarts’ Caretaker Moon teaches you the Alohamora spell. However, he only teaches you the level 1 version. You need to do a bit of looking to level it up to level 3.

Look For Demiguise Moons To Level Up Alohamora

Hogwarts Legacy Demiguise Moon

Demiguise Statues are the small objects that stand out because of their blue glowing orbs. You might have seen a couple of them while touring around Hogwarts. To get them however, you need to clear “The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament” and you can only get them at night. Collect a couple of them then return to Moon to level up your Alohamora. A higher Alohamora grants you access to more locked rooms, meaning more rewards. Level 3 Alohamora is also needed for some sidequests.

Lock Mini-Game Guide

To open locks, you must make both red and green gears to turn for a few seconds. To do this, use your left and right joysticks to drive the orbs to the crevices of the gears. Turn them slowly. It does not matter whether you do it clockwise or counter-clockwise. The goal is to set the orbs at the right location. Once a gear starts running, stop rotating the involved gear and continue until you meet the same result with the other one. Once you have both gears running, keep them at the same location for about three seconds to open the lock.
