Honda Motor Co., Ltd. Japan has announced that they are recalling several models of their vehicles for the repair and replacement of Steering Gearbox. According to the advisory, there are currently more than five thousand cars affected by the issue.
The cars affected by the steering gearbox issue include the Civic 4D 2022 – 2024, CR-V 2024, and Civic Type-R 2023 – 2025. Affected units in the Philippines reach a total of 5,505: 2,463 units for the Civic 4D, 2,762 units for the CR-V, and 280 units for the Civic Type-R.
Their findings show that “due to the decrease in grease amount in the worm gear, meshing area of the Electric Power Steering Gearbox during use, the sliding resistance in the meshing area increases and the torque fluctuation becomes larger while turning the steering wheel.” They say that this issue causes abnormal use or sticky steering that make drivers feel in danger.
Owners of these affected models are instructed to head on over to HCPI’s 38 authorized Honda Dealers and 3 Service Centers nationwide to proceed with the repair and replacement of the Steering Gearbox. They claim that the fix will only take 30 minutes while replacement will last approximately 4 hours.
There are currently no reported cases of crashes or injuries related to the issue.
