In Ghost of Yotei, players get to fight the Kitsune, one of the killers of Atsu’s family. As a ninja, the Kitsune uses poison and deception to subdue his enemies. Get to know how to beat the Kitsune in Ghost of Yotei, some tips for the duel, and more using this guide!
Check out how to beat Saito and the Oni!
You first duel the Kitsune in the mission, “Poison and Lies”. In this mission, Atsu and Oyuki infiltrate and garden growing the Kitsune’s poisons. In the climax of the mission, Atsu duels the Kitsune inside a burning building.
The Kitsune makes use of the Kusarigama as his main weapon. You can counter this weapon using a Spear or Yari. Although you can use a Katana to beat the Kitsune, having the Yari on hand makes the fight easier due to the additional Stagger damage. Get to know how to use one via the Ishikari Plain, in the domain of the Oni.
The fight against the Kitsune is pretty straight-forward and you can use tools like the Kunai to make it end faster. Once you halve the Kitsune’s health, he would then throw a poisoned Kunai at you, leaving Atsu’s vision blurry. This spells the end of your first duel against Kitsune, with the killer escaping the burning structure.
The second duel begins with Atsu finding the massacre at the Red Crane Inn in the mission, “The Kitsune’s Fate”. After infiltrating the Kitsune’s camp, Atsu and Oyuki battle a good number of enemy grunts to reach the Kitsune. The mission ultimately ends with Atsu dueling the Kitsune himself.
The Kitsune has an attack that uses the chains of the Kusarigama to pull Atsu when caught. Take care of this unblockable attack as it can take a huge chunk off your Health. Use dodge and watch out for the timing on this attack.
Once Dojun (The Kitsune) reaches about 80% of his Health, he will start using Smoke Bombs. To counter this, use Atsu’s sense by pressing on R3 and looking around to see his silhouette. Prepare for the attack or go on the offensive once you see him coming at you.
The Kitsune will also utilize a Shield during this fight, blocking off most of Atsu’s damage. To counter this, switch to your Kusarigama and pummel the Kitsune with Heavy Attacks until you break his shield.
Kunais? Two can play at that game. You can use a Kunai to counter the Kitsune’s red glint attacks from afar. This also leaves him stunned for a few seconds, giving you room to close in and deliver a few blows. Make sure you have some Kunais or have learned how to use it before you start the fight.
Like his namesake, the Kitsune dodges danger once again upon reaching 10% of his health. But there’s nowhere to run this time.
The third duel starts after Atsu and Oyuki catch up to the Kitsune. This plays similarly to the second duel but with added twists. The Kitsune also miraculously starts with full health.
The duel this time is a two vs one affair: Atsu and Oyuki against the Kitsune. Although Oyuki does land a few hits now and then, do not rely on her attack to win or it will be a very slow fight. Take advantage of Oyuki’s attacks to pin down the Kitsune and pummel him with your spear to break his guard.
The Kitsune can throw Kunais in quick succession. Be mindful of the count and dodge twice to prepare for the next projectile. Note that these Kunais are unblockable and are red glint attacks.
There’s not much to point out during this fight. It plays like the second duel against the Kitsune. Use your spear and utilize Oyuki’s help to bring down the Kitsune once and for all. Also, be on the look out for his quick red glint attacks and use your Kunais to your advantage!
