If you’re already running Windows 10 in your desktop or laptop, you may have noticed that user experience is not as smooth and seamless.
We don’t say that Windows 10 is a total disaster, it’s totally an improvement from the Windows 8. But for those of you who are not satisfied with overall experience, we listed some tips to fix those bugs. Here are the most common bugs with short fixes that may or may not work for you.
One thing that I immediately noticed when I upgraded to Windows 10 is that the trackpad is crappy and laggy. The calibration of input devices are likely to be altered when upgrading Operating systems. Sad to say, there’s not much you can do until your manufacturer or Windows themselves asses the problem and releases a patch.
You can always try uninstalling and reinstalling the current touchpad drivers, which you can pray to that that will fix the problem.
Almost every software update (may it be phones, laptops or desktop) will usually shorten the battery life of a device. If you are experiencing quick battery drains on your device, you may want to check with the manufacturer if there are some firmware or driver fix available for download to optimize and synchronize the demands of Windows 10.
Based on testing, the regular updates that Windows 10 tends to download and install in the background has a major effect on battery life. If you notice that your battery is draining fast, there may be some updates happening in the background, so it’s not a permanent problem.
One of the issues we have experienced upon using Windows 10 is that it removes the default file that we have set in Windows 7 or 8, so opening an image file opens up Windows 10’s new image application rather the one that you are used to. This seems to happen even though you set options during the upgrade.
It’s really a hassle but not that hard to fix. Just launch the Settings app in the taskbar, go to System and the click Default apps and set those default apps back. Another way is to right-click a file in and select Open with and the choose another app, tick the checkbox labeled Always use this app after selecting the default program that you want.
But of course, you’ll encounter applications that won’t work because of the software upgrade (especially older ones). If this is happening to you, chances are to keep check the program’s official website and look for updates compatible for Windows 10. You can always ask in the forums and check Google if there’s still away to run the software in Windows 10.
You can also try compatibility mode but this is not a sure way to fix this: Right click on the software, go to Properties and select the Compatibility tab. You can select the Windows version that worked before.
We expect to have a better user experience from Windows 10 with their daily updates. Did we miss anything? Let us know in the comments section below.
