Research firms IDC, Strategy Analytics, and Canalys has recently released their smartphone reports for the second quarter of 2018. Based on their findings, Huawei has overtaken Apple as the second largest smartphone brand in the world.
Data from IDC’s global quarterly market monitoring report shows that Huawei has taken second place from Apple with a market share of 15.8% surpassing the California-based tech firm by 3.7%.
IDC cites that Huawei continues to lead the China smartphone market with a record-high market share of 27% last quarter with the Huawei P20 series finding strong demand in the USD 600 – 800 price segment.
Strategy Analytics have also reported the Huawei had an increased annually shipped smartphones from 38.4 million to 54.2 million from Q2 of 2017 to the second quarter of 2018. Huawei has also found ground in mid-range smartphone models in the Nova 2S and Nova 3e becoming popular both in Asia and Europe.
In Canalys’ data, meanwhile, shows that Huawei has reported a 41% year-on-year growth and 54 million units sold by the end of Q2 2018 with the P20 series exceeding the quarter sell-in for both the P10 and P9.
This results has been possible, according to Huawei, with their massive investment on research and development of their products. With a total of USD 62.5 billion invested in the last decade, Huawei aims to continue its strategy to put forward leading technologies to gain the trust and preference of the consumers.
