Huawei FreeBuds 4i Unboxing and First Impressions: Better TWS Formula?

Huawei FreeBuds 4i Unboxing and First Impressions Cover

Huawei is once more expanding their range of TWS earphones with the FreeBuds 4i. As a direct upgrade from last year’s FreeBuds 3i, the 4i comes with a series of improvements such as longer battery life and better ergonomics.

Unboxing

The Huawei FreeBuds 4i is encased in primarily white box with golden accents throughout. Inside are the FreeBuds 4i themselves, its charging case, USB Type-C cable, small and large replacement silicone tips, and documentation.

Nothing too much out of the ordinary here and Huawei is including pretty much everything with the FreeBuds 4i to make it usable for both newbies and veterans on the Huawei platform.

Smaller Charging Case but Longer Battery Life on the TWS

The FreeBuds 4i’s charging case has a slightly smaller profile compared to its predecessors like the FreeBuds 3 and 3i, which allows for a more lightweight and compact carrying experience. The smaller case, however, means that battery capacity has been reduced to 210mAh.

In spite of the smaller battery of the case, the 4i themselves have a slightly larger battery of 55mAh per earbud. Huawei promises up to 10 hours of usage without active noise cancelling.

Improved TWS Formula?

The Huawei FreeBuds 4i comes with a slew of improvements over previous generations of the brand’s TWS. Aside from the increased longevity, its active noise cancellation system can now neutralize up to 22dB of noise from the outside.

New quality of life systems like Awareness Mode and Voice Mode have also been implemented on the 4i. Weight stays the same at around 5.5g per earpiece but its new ergonomics allow for a more comfortable listening experience.

It also has a standard silicone mount so you can purchase your own silicone tips for your preferred comfort levels. Capacitive controls are still implemented on the side and can play/pause music, answer and end call, and turn on awareness or ANC mode.

A 10nm driver rests inside the earbuds themselves and can deliver a decent amount of sound. We have not had much time with the FreeBuds 4i but the audio signature produced by the TWS is fairly decent but we will need a bit more time to make a final decision.

First Impressions

Huawei is pretty much spot on with their latest iteration of their FreeBuds series. At PhP 3,599 in the Philippines, the Huawei FreeBuds 4i seemingly delivers solid device for the price. Again, we are still in the testing phase for the TWS but so far, it feels like Huawei has a decent device on their hands.

Our full review of the Huawei FreeBuds 4i should be posted on the site in the coming days. Stay tuned!
